How to crop a PDF in your browser
- 1
Upload your PDF
Click "Select PDF File" or drag your document onto the upload zone. The file stays on your device.
- 2
Drag the corners to set your crop area
A live preview appears with eight resize handles. Drag any corner or edge to adjust the crop, or drag inside the rectangle to move it. Use the rule-of-thirds gridlines to align content.
- 3
Pick an aspect ratio (optional)
Choose Free, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, A4, or Letter. Locked ratios snap when you resize from a corner.
- 4
Apply to all pages or per page
By default the crop applies to every page. Switch to Per-page mode if pages need different crops, then navigate with the page strip.
- 5
Download the cropped PDF
Click "Save Cropped PDF" and the file downloads to your device immediately.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Crop PDF tool free?
Yes. PDFKing is completely free with no signup, no watermarks, and no usage limits. You can crop as many PDFs as you want.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Cropping happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript libraries (pdf.js and pdf-lib). Your PDF never leaves your device, which makes this tool ideal for sensitive documents.
Can I apply different crops to different pages?
Yes. Switch the "Apply Crop To" option to "Per-page" and each page will keep its own crop region. Navigate between pages using the thumbnail strip below the preview.
Does cropping reduce the PDF file size?
Cropping changes the visible page area by setting a new CropBox and MediaBox, but the underlying content is preserved. The file size will be similar. To reduce file size, use a compression tool after cropping.
What is the auto-trim feature?
Auto-trim scans the page pixel-by-pixel to find where the content begins and ends, then sets the crop tightly around it with a small padding. It's especially useful for cleaning up scanned documents with uneven margins.
Will cropped PDFs print correctly?
Yes. PDFKing sets both the CropBox and MediaBox so the new page boundaries are respected by all major PDF viewers, browsers, and print drivers.
